Kayla Roy graduated from Edison Institute of Nutrition with a diploma in Holistic Nutrition, First Class Honours, in June 2020. She is a designated Natural Nutrition Clinical Practitioner through the Canadian Association of Natural Nutrition Practitioners. Her continuing education primarily focuses on herbal medicine, gut, and hormone health.

After working with clients through her first 2 years of practice, Kayla incorporated functional testing to produce more significant results.

Functional testing has allowed for modern scientific advances to give us a clear roadmap of what areas need our focus, so that we can use traditional methods and attunement to nature to feel better.

I believe there are some things you can’t learn in school, and for me, that is my intuitive journey, especially with nature. I have observed the seasons and the plants since I quit drinking alcohol in 2019. It led me to herbalism, wild food, reciprocation, energy medicine, and tending to the land which are now core values for me.

Personal Bio

I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition at the age of 18 and put on Synthroid for the first time. I could sleep for 13 hours and still wake up tired. I wasn’t properly guided on how to take the medication, what foods interact with it or even what it does so I stopped taking it. When I was 23 years old, I could fall asleep while driving, not to mention the depression and paranoia I was battling. It felt like there was a big dark cloud that followed me everywhere and pushed down on my shoulders. I was so privileged in that moment in time to have a doctor that would do a full thyroid panel and found that I had autoimmune thyroiditis. He prescribed me a high dose of Synthroid and a week off work, to which my managers scoffed. Living with an invisible illness, mystery hospitalizations, cystic ovaries, cystic acne, recurring infections and allergic reactions to medications (to which I was obviously told I was the problem) was an incredibly isolating period in my life that led me to spend tens of thousands of dollars on naturopathic doctors and specialists.

My medical experience alchemized into a passion for helping people like myself with hormonal imbalances and autoimmune conditions. After learning the hard way, and many experiments I now regret, I gained the education and experience to become the person I needed when I was 23 years old. It is never too late to turn things around and start living rather than trying to make it through the day, the week, etc. Remission is possible.

My thyroid healing journey included energy healing, addressing underlying chronic infections, removing chemical exposures, digestive system healing, food sensitivities, functional testing, sleep hygiene, plant medicine, sobriety, and taking a reaaaally close look at my relationship with rest vs. productivity.

If any of this resonates with you, we should work together!

Offerings

Held is a 12 week one-on-one program that helps people get to the root cause of their hormone imbalances and autoimmune conditions to better manage their symptoms and feel educated about their bodies. Chronic illness can feel like you are being betrayed by your body, but your body is doing exactly what it is supposed to do with the signals it is receiving, whether those signals are environmental toxins, stress, gut dysbiosis, and so on. We use functional testing to find clues of what is causing the alarms to go off and treat it naturally.
